Arriving through my email, this picture brouhgt out all the Arabic nationalistic principles I grew up with and was religiously fed at school, however, these "calling for a stand" messages have lost all credibility . . . pictures are not worth a dime any more

Browsing the internet for news-websites that would give me something more definite than “members of Al-Sabah family are pledging allegiance to Shaikh Sabah Al-Ahmad,” a piece of news that means nothing and yet could mean so much, I came across this silly site. It's called Araboo. Check it out. I recommend you go to Recreation and then to Dance and check the oriental dancing suits they have on the site for sale…horrendous!!

And, we remain leaderless, is this going to be over soon?

I was a kid of the 70s, I grew up only knowing him as a leader, as a symbol. He, somehow, personified Kuwait, or Kuwait was embodied by him. When I think of my beloved homeland, his image comes dashing, like a background to my visual thoughts and memories of Kuwait. And now he's gone, with all his astonishing accomplishments and somber mistakes.

He does not represent Kuwait now to the world, as political powers of the world are keen to find out who the next leader jumping into the chair will be and are already recalculting accounts and modefying plans.

Myself and, I believe, my generation will always feel that Kuwait is forever embodied in Jaber, I doubt I will ever look at any leader to come the same way I looked at Jaber Al-Ahmad, as a symbol who provided a sense of comfort and safety and stability, despite all that happened during his reign.

May he find peace and be immersed in God's mercy..

Banned Band

So we go to this restaurant to celebrate New Year. The charge is fairly high and the place is small, but they advertised a live band and we thought that sounded nice, a festive atmosphere not offered at many other places in Kuwait for the occasion, and so we went for it..
Turns out MOI (Ministry of Information) gave out a last-minute “order” banning all live music. So there was this man on a key board playing the same tune all night till after midnight when a lady singer joined him, timidly signing words that didn’t make much sense (I’m not even sure she sang in English!!) We asked whether these orders were only concerned with the occasion of New Year, and the answer was yes. We shall have signing at any other time of the year except New Year. Explanations?!!!!
Advertised also fake Champaign, it was red sugary drink…
My heart still danced at 12:00 AM and I am still hoping and hopeful

Express yourself

Why did around 10000 people escape Kuwait for the upcoming Newyear eve and day?

I don't think we lack places nor sources of entertainment , what we lack is the opportunity, the chance to express ourselves. Doors and windows of expression are shut, we are all to look at things from one and only perspective, we are all to express ourselves using the tools of one system. This is a system to rot the soul. We, humans, are not made to do same, belive same, nor express same, we are made to be different, and that is what we lack now, the opportunity to be different..

We leave beautiful Kuwait because we want to express ourselves, paricularly when there is an occasion for expression like Newyear. We could have done so much to beautify this country had we been granted the chance, but we aren't...so express yourself anywhere you are..
